|
The development of an aging labor force is the social issue of our times, and it could affect the quality of life of elderly. Especially, the job creation for the elderly can enhance the health status of elderly in that the aging people can participate social activity. Hence it could contribute to reduce medical cost paid by the elderly. This study aims to investigate the effect of job creation projects for the elderly on health status of elderly by way of its effect on the medical cost of elderly.
Based on the method of comparing average medical cost of a participating group with that of nonparticipating group, participating group shows a statistically significant lower level of medical cost than nonparticipating group. The empirical results suggest that, since 2004 when this project was launched, whether to participate and the duration of participating this project have a statistically significant effect on medical cost of elderly. The results indicate that this project has an important role in enhancing health status of elderly which induces the medical cost of elderly to be reduced.
